Appetizer – When was the last time you visited a hospital?
Gads, I work in one, so the last time was yesterday morning. I jump in my car about 6 am and drive for about 10 miles across the river and up a huge hill and park right in front of my building and go sit in my nice office and basically see nobody for 4-8 hours, depending on whether it’s a full day or a half day. I do frequently get up and go out for a quick outside walk though to get the fresh air and see the excellent view. Portland is a gorgeous city to look out on from above.
Soup – On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being highest, how ambitious are you?
Depends on ambitious for what. Certainly not fame or fortune at this late date. Peace of mind – now that’s what consumes me lately. Maybe once I’ve figured out my secret key to finding it, I won’t be ambitious ever again.
Salad – Make a sentence using the letters of a body part. (Example: (mouth) My other ukelele tings healthily.)
Never ever run virtually east.
Main Course – If you were to start a club, what would the subject matter be, and what would you name it?
I’ve tried to start clubs of women friends several times in the last 10 years or so. They always break down and I’m always disappointed. I keep thinking we’d have all this common wisdom to share. We could never even agree on a name, so that gives you an idea. Let’s see – possible name, Nattering Nitwits.
Dessert – What color is the carpet/flooring in your home?Hardwood floors everywhere except kitchen and bathroom. Aging linoleum there that I keep intending to replace. Various rugs in mostly browns, greens, and maroons. I had a dream once to have Persian carpet in at least the living room but it slipped on my priority list.
Deep Thought: “I don’t understand people who say life is a mystery, because what is it they want to know?”
Today I am grateful for: Quiet nextdoor neighbors.
Guess the Movie: “There once was a time in this business when I had the eyes of the whole world! But that wasn’t good enough for them, oh no! They had to have the ears of the whole world too. So they opened their big mouths and out came talk. Talk! TALK!” Answer: Sunset Boulevard, 1950.
Winner: pray14me.
Starving for Attention: Troops Home Fast, Day One
by Cindy Sheehan
It is midnight of the 5th of July and 24 hours since thousands of us began the Troops Home Fast.
Some of us who will be fasting completely until the troops come home; some will be on liquids only until the troops come home; some will fast for 2 weeks, 2 days; or like me, until at least September 21st. (Rest of article here.)

Awhhhh…, the baby birds are precious.
The last time I was in a hospital, was the last time I saw my dad alive. I never really liked hospitals, so I admire people that can go work in them everyday. My hats off to your.
Is the movie, Sunset Boulevard?
On a scale of one to ten, today, I am a two, lol!
Tricia
LOL this is fun
1-The last time I was in a hospital was taking my Mom to chemo this week.
2-I used to be incredibly ambitious. Now, I really don’t care. And now is when they try to promote me and push me in that kind of an arena.
3-Listen, I’ve visited every river!
4-A club? I would like to create a club for those of us who’ve self-published and can’t get a break. I’d start a fund to help with expenses and help promote independent literature everywhere.
5-Aaaah, I love dessert. Mostly hardwood floors in my apartment, except I did get a persian rug from my Mom. It now resides in the living room–black background with a geometric design of olive green, brown, and white.
Sunset Boulevard takes the cake!
Love the friday 5!! And your sentence from a body part is quite clever!
Last time I visited a hospital was probably 5 years ago.
Scale of 1 to 10 – hmmmmm. 6?
Every lonely boy ogles women.
I think a chess club. How about, All the Kings Men.
The only carpet in my home is sorta of a beige kind of color.
Never overlook swans’ elegance.
I hear good things about Portland. I like the Northwest in general! Someday I’ll visit the city. I keep hearing how liveable it is.
SOOO Sunset Boulevard! I know it’s already been guessed and recognized, but darn it – I knew it!
What do you do at the hospital? I wonder…
The women’s club thing… I have often wanted to start one… Never did… The idea of it still nags at me though, from time to time…
Visit the hospital just about every other week, elder child works there and it is close enough to bike up there and sit with here during her lunch break. (on the weekends we both work afternoons)
Very much like you in that ambition depends on the goal, some river thats new to us yeah I can really put out the effort. Making an effort to please my sociopathic boss, nah not this week.
ryc – I like the Friday Five. Makes it fun and easy to interact.
Here’s my crack at “salad”
For instant natural gratitude eat romaine.
I think wanting to be happy, which I do, every single day of my life, is very ambitious. Lionne, Ii have a question for you. Do you think this latest foiled terror attack, the one on the PATH train, seems fake? I know we both thought the Sears Tower thing was fishy, but this one seems more real. Is it because it isn’t just the White House saying it, or the FBI, but rather, international police? Hmm. I also love Friday Five! Have a wonderful weekend.
I want to be in your club. We got an invite from the neighbors for their son’s bar mitzvah. I was so touched and honored that they thought of us and wanted us to be there. I’ve tried to worm our way into their social life. When we have (rarely) gotten together it seems fun, and I’ve tried not to get my feelings hurt when they don’t reciprocate because I know we’re all so busy…but then she sent me email after she got our RSVP to explain only my son was invited, not all of us. “It’s expensive and we have to keep the head count down. I know you’ll understand.” Sigh.
I also want to know. What is in that picture? And why does it disturb me?
ryc – I am sure he will like it.
I so love this picture….
Erase yesterday’s experiences.
Ha! “Nattering Nitwits”.
The last time at the hospital was when Richard and I went to a seminar given by the hospital. A doctor who knew a lot about hip and joint replacement gave a very good little speech on it. Refreshments were good too
I’m not a Xanga user, nor do I ever hope to become one, but I wanted to comment to say I found your list of people who “knock you out” A-Z and agreed with a good number of your choices (especially Zinn and Leibovitz). I’m only 19, but I found it interesting that a good number of our influential people were similar. Best wishes to you and thank you for this interesting read on a Monday.
You have beautiful photos
Thanks for commenting! The “Salad” made me laugh. Hehe…

Feasting on ordinary thunder.
It’s a mad storm here, and I wanted to leave you something lovely and inspired, but the sky is positively symphonic and I can’t compete at all.

lol…yep, have to say i visit the hospital every so often…well if i’m working that is! lol
portland definitely has some awesome views and vistas!
Hi Lionne, I like this one.
1. I visit a hospital every two weeks cos I see a dietician there. I have to gain a lot of weight.
2. I’m an abuse survivor & I want my life back. Sometimes that seems impossible but I still want it, so 10.
3. Let everyone grow.
4. “Kids matter”. That would be an important club, cos a lot of us think we don’t matter at all.
5. Wood floors, now all we need is a dog sliding around chasing a tennis ball!
Kev
Visited someone in the hospital in the last 2-3 months.
Sometimes a 3, sometimes a 5, never a 10.
Sweet tangerines often mellow after citrus heatings.
Scrabble club. Words in Crisis.
Beige carpet (not my choice, I have lived here 4 months and it takes time to change things) Off white linoleum in kitchen and baths, Purple, green shades of each throw rugs.
i really hate hospitals ~ jack
