  • THURSDAY WHATEVER

What do you make of the Deaner these days? Here’s three recent quotes:

Dick Cheney (Tuesday on Fox News Channel’s “Hannity & Colmes”):
“I’ve never been able to understand (Howard Dean’s) appeal. Maybe his mother loved him, but I’ve never met anybody who does. He’s never won anything, as best as I can tell.”
“So far, I think he’s probably helped us more than he has them. That’s not the kind of individual you want to have representing your political party.”

Karen Finney (a spokeswoman, Democratic National Committee):
“Governor Dean must be doing something right if the vice president of the United States would stoop so low as to use the governor’s mother as a way to deflect from answering the concerns of the American people. It’s no wonder President Bush’s approval ratings are at an all-time low.”
Howard Dean (Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa):
“We need to be blunt and clear about the things we’re going to fight for. I’m tired of lying down in front of the Republican machine. We need to stand up for what we believe in.”

As we know, that same machine creamed him in the last election run-up just by manipulating his image in the media. I’m fully expecting them to pull the same thing again and the Democrats had better stand firm behind him, or we’re all sunk. Wishy washy isn’t going to cut it.
(nullwinkle comments that Dean supports the death penalty, which was news to me so I looked up and here‘s a page that tells where he stands on many issues including that one, plus how other candidates stand on the death penalty issue. Food for thought.)

Deep Thought: “To my way of thinking, there’s nothing that can’t be cured by a big ol’ pot o beans. Except maybe bean fever.”
Today I am grateful for: Breathing
Guess the Movie: “Do you know what this is?” “Oh, that’s my heart.” “No, actually, it’s Fuzzy’s. There’s nothing wrong with your heart.” Answer: The Cider House Rules, 1999. Winner: tearsign.
Bipartisan Coalition Of Members To Hold Press Conference To Announce Legislation Calling on President to Set Plan For Beginning Phase-out of US Troops in Iraq
Reps. Jones (R-NC), Paul (R-TX), Abercrombie (D-HI), Kucinich (D-OH) To Hold Press Conference Thursday at 10:30am In House Radio TV Gallery

  • Darth Cheney’s quote is not only catty, but could probably pertain to himself. Dean did do something stupid and I agree, the Democrats were idiotic for not backing him up at the Primaries. Instead they got the guy who was so unlikely to win he couldn’t compare to the Republican marketing machine.
BTW- the Movie is Cider House Rules

  • I agree re: Dean. We either have to stand behind him or push him aside. This “we’re behind him except when we think he’s crazy (and that’s any time he says something offensive to the GOP” isn’t exactly a positive thing.

  • Cider House Rules – correctamundo!

  • This is so funny. Cheney curses, screams, lies, rants, and he’s vice-president. Bill Frist rants and makes video-medical-diagnoses and he’s senate leader. Republicans are endlessly saying the most outrageous things and “the liberal media” says not one thing. Screw them. It is time to be very angry. I want my Howard Dean even more out there.

But I also wants Democrats arguing non-stop for National Health Insurance, for Ted Kennedy’s “Blue Cross for Everyone.” Because, that will win elections.

  • Cheney seems to be an articulate, intelligent guy, until you realize he’s actually a sleezeball. I think too many people have yet to realize the sleezy part of him. And I still don’t see what over half the electorate sees in the current president. I don’t see anything at all, certainly nothing between his ears…

  • I’ve always liked Howard Dean…..I don’t know how much of a chance he has but someone has to have the guts..and I think the Dems really need to shape up….

Certainly Cheney gives me the creeps.

  • The problem with the Democrats isn’t that they are spineless, it’s their centrist, pro-globalization, neoliberal ideology. Dean is a centrist politician with a sharp tongue, and a lot of liberals like his sharp tongue and ignore the things he believes, like that Dean supports the death penalty.

  • Dean is fighting fire with fire and doing what he has to. I have surprising respect for his strategy and he is much wiser then people are giving him credit for…

  • Dean is shrewd  like a shrew     thanks for stopping by  i was not finioshed  lol   i forget to punch my private button when i write in early morn   ur qoute of the day should have my fathers’ name behind it   thanx  magi

  • It makes me so angry that the repukelicans can say and do anything and no one calls them on it. The Dems need to get some balls and that might just be starting with Dean.

  • i love The Cider House Rules. Dean scares me. Cheney scares me. I’m scared.
