  • SATURDAY POEM I ADMIRE
(This will be the last of this series – see all collected in sidebar)

    Song

My heart, my dove, my snail, my sail, my
        milktooth, shadow, sparrow, fingernail,
            flower-cat and blossom-hedge, mandrake
root now put to bed, moonshell, sea-swell,
manatee, emerald shining back at me,
nutmeg, quince, tea leaf and bone, zither,
    cymbal, xylophone; paper, scissors, then
        there’s stone—Who doesn’t come through the door
            to get home?

Cynthia Zarin – Born in New York City, educated Harvard and Columbia, artist-in-residence at Cathedral of St. John the Divine in NYC.

Deep Thoughts: “I hope life isn’t a big joke, because I don’t get it.”
Today I am grateful for: Georgia manhunts to keep our minds off wars and politics (just kidding)
Guess the Movie: “When I sit, you sit. When I kneel, you kneel. Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera!” Answer: The King and I, 1956. Winner: skanickadee.
Annan Attacks Erosion of Rights in War on Terror
US and Britain in UN Secretary General’s Sights
    by Jonathan Steele

The UN secretary general, Kofi Annan, launched a fierce attack on Britain and the US yesterday for weakening human rights in the name of the war on terror.
“We cannot compromise on core values,” he said in Madrid on the first anniversary of the train bombings that killed 191 people in the Spanish capital. “Human rights and the rule of law must always be respected.” (Rest of article here.)
    End of Day: 9:02 pm
    + = Delicious weather.
    - = Lots of small disappointments today, almost in tears at one point.

  • I just hope “SATURDAY POEM I ADMIRE” doesn’t get replaced with “Saturday Professional Wrestler I Admire.”

  • You funny. Never Fear. I know less than nothing about wrestling.

  • Wonderful words linked in series and threaded into a particularly tasty poem, best savored while speaking out loud!

    Delightful. Thanks!

  • Could it be The King and I?

  • You got it – bet Spleenie wouldn’t have known this one, huh?

  • Life is a big joke!  LOL.  Still….I don’t get it, either.  hahahaha. The poem is an interesting play on words.  I liked it.

  • Of COURSE it’s THE KIND AND I!

“Why is your head higher than Kings?”

My favorite line.  I say to people all the time.

  • touching poem…

  • I love the poem.

  • Thanks for the sidebar poems too. Some I’ve previously read others were new to me. The John Updike poem was wonderful.

  • No, Spleen would not have known that one. I walked around all day saying, “Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera!” Let’s just say my Yul Brenner impression is not that good but it amused me. Simple things please simple minds.

  • I hope you’re ok

  • Gardening sounds like fun. I live in an apartment so don’t get much of a chance to garden. I just wish I get my flowering plants to keep flowering – or maybe some only flower once and that’s it? I buy a lot of flower plants from Freddie’s but then all I have left is foilage, which is cool.

How are all the kitties doing? Are they loving the nice warm weather?

  • I know a lot about tunnels… write if you’d like…

  • like the poem – very interesting.

  • For once, I correctly guessed the movie line! I’m very un-saavy when it comes to movies…unless they are classics and family-friendly.

I hope your last few days have been better…little disappointments can really add up!
