TUESDAY POLITICS Barbara Boxer
I have to confess I knew nothing about this woman (well, I’d heard her name) until I tuned in one day to some cable channel broadcasting her Kill Bill attack on now Secretary-of-State Rice during the confirmation hearings. This woman can slice and dice. On further research, I discovered she was the one and only female in the Senate to vote against the war in Iraq and also against Rice’s confirmation. She has now become my #1 Favorite Senator. Here are a few of her credentials for those of you who also knew nothing:

I think we’ll see her face more and more often in the coming days.
Deep Thought: “If you’re ever giving a speech, when you start out, act nervous and get mixed up a little bit. Then, as you go along, get better and better. Then, at the end, give off a white, glowing light and have rays shoot out of you.
Today I am grateful for: Cats

An Election to Anoint an Occupation
Had it Been Held in Zimbabwe, the West Would Have Denounced it
by Salim Lone
Tony Blair and George Bush were quick to characterise yesterday’s election as a triumph of democracy over terror. Bush declared it a “resounding success”, while Blair asserted that “The force of freedom was felt throughout Iraq”. And yet the election fell so completely short of accepted electoral standards that had it been held in, say, Zimbabwe or Syria, Britain and America would have been the first to denounce it. End of Day: 8:48 pm
+ = No bombs fell on my head today.
- = I got very very very very upset though about something – not good for me.

That’s a great article link. Bush, of course, would insist on fair elections in Syria or Zimbabwe but surely not in Iraq or Ohio. “Democracy” is slogan to this administration, certainly not an idea.
I think there are way too few few courageous Senators. Barbara Boxer is one, however. I hope her stances rub off on more of her female colleagues, including Washington’s two Senators, and of course those two unfortunately deluded women from Maine who remain Republicans despite disagreeing with everything their party stands for.
Yaaay , Boxer is a brooklyn girl! Well yes that is a bit trite. But it seems that brooklyn breeds champions of the underdog. It must be the living conditions
I happened to see Boxer’s confirmation performance too, and was riveted. That is one strong lady, that one!
I have been hearing about this woman and I applaud her whole heartedly.
SOMEBODY needs to say what a lot of us are wondering and thinking! Too often it seems that speaking up gets one shot down.
Ghandi? This just randomly occurred to me…
I’ve been a Boxer fan since my Stanford days. But since I’ve been on the East coast, I don’t follow her as much as before. Whatever happened to her buddy Feinstein?
I agree with the sentiments of thenarrator, Democracy is a slogan and like many other words Bush has cheapened it and made it seem nearly useless. Some of the other words he has cheapened; Religion, Moral Values, Democracy, Freedom, President, Safety. I could go on and on..
I have heard people slam Boxer for standing up to this whole ultra conservative machine as if she is out of her mind for disagree with the powers that be, has our country really come full circle back to the point where everyone accepts the word of those in power as right no matter what? I have noticed that other Democrats are starting to support Boxer, there is hope, but its an unnerving feeling to see the blinded agreement with everything coming from Washington. Reminds me of a song by Simon and Garfunkel “Sound of Silence”.
Bingo – Gandhi is right!
Love the deep thought.
love your latest blogs. Take care!
We are lacking in good strong senators – she sounds first class!
She will stand up and tell it like it is. I love her.
I wish more Democrats followed democratic ideals and stood up against the powers that be as Sen. Boxer does!
the state of the union will push her more to the limelight. A huge fight is on every front in the horizon…
The politics of America is scary from this view point…..the words of G.W.Bush “To spread Democracy all over the world” ring just a bit too close to Hitler’s dream…..I do hope this Senator will be one of the stop measures from another world domination attempt…..I guess I’m more of a socialist….great post…’til the next
