  • THURSDAY WHATEVER

Just thought you might want to know exactly who voted against the confirmation of Rice:

    Jack Reed, Rhode Island
    Carl Levin, Michigan
    Frank Lautenberg, New Jersey
    Tom Harkin, Iowa
    Richard Durbin, Illinois
    Robert Byrd, West Virginia
    Daniel Akaka, Hawaii
    Evan Bayh, Indiana
    Barbara Boxer, California
    Mark Dayton, Minnesota
    Ted Kennedy, Massachusetts
    John Kerry, Massachusetts
    Jim Jeffords, Vermont (Independent)

These are my heroes today and reason for us all to have hope. If they came from your state, hold your head up high.

Deep Thought: “The face of a child can say it all, especially the mouth part of the face.”
Today I am grateful for: Dissent
Guess the Movie: “Oh, do forgive me for scratching you, dear. I got a bit carried away. It’s a cat thing.” Answer: Babe, 1995. Winner: ydurp.
    Rice Confirmed Despite Dems’ Criticisms
    by Anne Gearan
WASHINGTON – Condoleezza Rice won confirmation as secretary of state Wednesday despite blistering criticism from Senate Democrats who accused her of misleading statements and said she must share the blame for mistakes and war deaths in Iraq. (Rest of article here

+ = Went to an interesting lunch/talk/photography exhibit about the Black Panthers today at Reed College.
    - = Felt like I was probably the only person in the room who was actually there in 1968 when all that was going down in the Bay Area.

  • i heard that it was the highest number of dissenting votes since the early 1800s.  good on them for not being suckered in.  and i hope all the schmoes who didn’t head my call for a democratic senate are paying attention.  it may not mean much in the condi rice affirmation, but it will speak volumes when gonzales hits center stage.

  • Wow, to start a new position with that much flak….Thank you for your comments, they really touched me….I like you too…..great post….I will be back….’til the next

  • She’s a for sure *yes* man.  Gah!  I admire her accomplishments as a minority on two fronts, but my gawd!!!!  Maybe I should try to get back into the mainstream again as far as voting goes.  I’ve been out of the loop for far too many years.  Thanks for visiting my site.  You’re right – it isn’t easy to fess up to so many things about ourselves, but sometimes just letting things out helps ease the burden some.    Have a great day!

  • Thanks for posting this.  No one from Washington State. I am disappointed.  Well at least we have a democratic governor, for the time being anyway…the Republicans are calling for another election…good grief.

  • Homeward Bound?

  • Some of those folks were my heroes already — but especially today!

    - Jen, from beautiful California

  • Michigan had one Senator do the right thing. I’m shocked and disappointed in New York, and in Barack Obama.

  • Where’s our Senetor?

Barbara Boxer, California is the bravest of all.

  • Homeward Bound is not the answer, darnit. Think pork.

  • I’m with thenarrator – What happened to you Barack? Thank you to Dick Durbin from the great state of Illinois!

  • Yay! Or should I say oink! You win!

  • Thank you Mark Dayton of Minnesota!!  He has been dubbed as ‘eccentric,’  but isn’t that the case with those that march to a different beat?  Our governor, Tim Pawlenty is looking at cutting rent credit here by 30 mil dollars.  The wealthy here in MN have huge mansions, but yet they get a subsidy.  That extra money could be used for better causes-keeping the rent credit at current levels so that those of us that live in low- to moderate income housing can make ends meet. I personally use the rent credit to catch up on bills, buy groceries, school clothes  and supplies, and other necessities.

  • What’s going to happen when Condolezza Rice is up for President?
