PEOPLE WHO KNOCK ME OUT
(for others see sidebar)Jane Fonda
She’s 67 now and I’ve been following her journey with admiration for some 40 years. Besides speaking up against the war in Vietnam and taking never-ending flak for it, she also married Tom Hayden and supported his career financially, and for her third choice in husbands (first was Roger Vadim – French director) took on Ted Turner, liberal media mogul. She has never been afraid to contend, but while she was at it she just managed to win 6 Golden Globes, 2 Academy Awards (one for Coming Home – now there was an anti-war movie to die for), and an Emmy. From a famous film family and a Vassar graduate, she was also flexible, becoming an exercise icon in the early ’80′s and starting the video fitness craze. And all the way along, she looked Fabulous. I hear she’s become a born-again Christian (details of which should be fascinating). I’m afraid I can’t follow her there, but she will be a forever role model among my peers for her moxie and take-it-on-the-chin integrity.
Deep Thought: “Just as bees will swarm about to protect their nest, so will I “swarm about” to protect my nest of chocolate eggs. “
Today I am grateful for: Nest eggs
Guess the Movie: “I was just reciting the Shepard’s Prayer. Alan Shepard’s prayer. Please God, don’t let us screw up. Amen. ” Answer: Space Cowboys, 2000.
Polls Today: Kerry 253/Bush 254. EVP: “There are 18 new polls today, mostly in battleground states, but no states switched sides there. However, a change comes from a most unlikely location. A new poll in Hawaii shows the race is tied there. If it is really true, this is very bad news for Kerry. He was supposed to win easily there. Of course he could fly out there this week for some much needed vacation time and call it campaigning, but I doubt that he will. As a result of Hawaii becoming a tie, Bush now takes the lead in the electoral college, 254 to 253. Talk about a tight race where every vote counts.”
End of Day: 9:06 pm
+ = Clinton is back on the campaign trail and I sure hope it helps.
- = Finally getting too cold to enjoy yardwork.

Hi! Just passing through and thought I’d leave a comment. I like your site. Plus, LOVE your thoughts. Very cute. LOL Have a great day!!
I had a runnin email battle with friends some weeks ago about Jane, with those who still want to call her “anti-American.” “Anti-American?” I asked. How does someone absolutely standing up for her beliefs become anti-American? I pointed out that while Jane did everything she could to stop the war, and John Kerry went to war, and then did everything to stop it, and even Bill Clinton who didn’t go, worked to stop others from having too, people like Bush and Cheney supported it while refusing to go. Where’s the obvious lack of integrity?
Coming Home’s never been my favorite (more a Deer Hunter guy), but Klute, Agnes of God, They Shoot Horses Don’t They?, Julia, Barefoot in the Park, and yeah, I’ll admit it, Barbarella, all favorites.
And how about that one about the nuclear power plant that almost blew up.
she is an interesting example of how quickly fans become judges when a celebrity expresses political views…
Jack Lemmon and Jane both overacted a bit in China Syndrome, but maybe that’s just in retrospect. That was such a crucial film when it came out.
retrospect, i suspect. we all took ourselves all ever so seriously then, and the “big” topics as well. come to think of it, i still do tend to take myself a little too seriously than is healthy. sigh. thought i’d be grown up and “together” by now. Jane a role model for me too, and here proof that you can admire and try to emulate without morphing into someone/thing other than who you (and I) are. . .
I wondered what had happened to her. I always thought people made her out to be a villain, just because she was a woman who voiced her opinions.
Thanks for subscribing. And for appreciating my entry about my little piglet, Rufus.
Ooops! I do this rarely on xanga. BUT, I think the thing that makes Jane’s Vietnam-era critics so angry is, not that she voiced her opinion here in America, but that she went over there. I have several nam vet buddies that told me about their friends getting tortured because of her behavior there, and they told me this before all of the “we hate Jane” e-mails started. Where there’s smoke, there is usually at least a little fire. She DEFINITELY had the right message, just the wrong place for that particular message. (There, . . .I feel better!)
Otherwise, I think she is GREAT!! Let’s not forget “Nine to Five”, (I can do M & M’s anytime I want!) and “On Golden Pond”.
her father was Henry Honda../N *
she is a cool wo man ted shudda been pyin’ a little more atten tion to her she is a rebel or so it seems to me not acting *smiley** magi
I love jane, except when she was doing the tomahawk chop thing in Atlanta, and I’m voting kerry, but the pic of the two of them together is a fake, it’s been proven. They were at the same rally but never met!.
Thanks for subbing to my site!
I have admired her acting skills, but I don’t know about her personal life.
“The Pianist” was very hard to watch, at times, but a truly amazing movie. One image that will stick with me is of the family together for the last time, before they are to board the train, sharing the one piece of candy, a last bit of sweetness… it brings tears to my eyes even typing that.
I admit to losing some respect for Jane when, after years of saying you could achieve the body you want through excercise, she bought boobs.
I was actually going to invite Bush supporters to make their case…
