  • Dragon-Monster

Inspired by bkeller49, I thought I’d share this drawing by my now-12-year-old grandson. The text is in colored pencil so it’s kind of hard to read. It ‘s an equation: “Fish + Poison = Evil BloodSucking Fish + Venom and Lava = Maneating Spiky Lava Shooting Monster + Nuclear Power + Destroying World Domanating Nuclear Flying Swimming Dragon + Extreme hot and cold = Roaring Nuclear Freezing and Melting powers Maneating Destroying Blood Sucking World Domanating Evil Dragon-Monster.” Is this a child of the 21st Century or what?
Deep Thought: When I was about in the third grade I used to play with matches all the time. Then one day, something made me stop. I accidentally scraped one across a rough surface and it caught on fire!
Today I am grateful for: Thumb tacks

  • moi aussi, madame. i too had a fascination with matches and fire as a young girl. i remember my mother had an extravagant hat with peacock feathers and i would pluck them off and feed them into the furnace, watching the big colourful eyes on the feathers turn into ash, then i would set them on the concrete floor of our basement. that favorite game ended shortly after my mother discovered her hat, plucked nearly bare.

i love the picture your grandson drew. it’s wonderfully creative. yes, certainly a child of this century *s*

  • Very cool, he’s already hip to the tricks of the creative process.

  •    Hey, he’s pretty good little artist. I especially like the blue swimming dragon, it looks ready to pounce. He’s got a great imagination, doesn’t he?

  • I believe that it is a sad thing when the violent reality of our era is taken in by young minds and manifest in their creative outpourings.  However, I also remember that I come from an era where it was OK for children to pretend to slay one another.  Did that lead to this?

  • I agree with procrastin8 about violence being such an integral part of our childrens’ creativity. My 4 year old turns everything into a gun. Even cartoons have violence of one sort of another. It’s really sad that the days we spent building forts, playing house, actually using our minds for something wholesome have almost disappeared. However, in light of the progression of society, your grandson’s drawing is awesome. He does truly have a great imagination and the artistic talent to boot. Keep encouraging him to express himself.

  • Fantastic drawing to augment some great ideas!  I’d bet that for every World Destroyer he dreams up, there’s a Defender to counter.
    Very Impressive!!

  • Of my two still at home, I have one turning 8 tomorrow. Sigh. Look what I have to look forward to!
