The Passion of the Christ
Against my better judgment, I went to see this film yesterday because a friend who happens to be Catholic was going with her church group and asked me along. I knew ahead of time that I would see 2 hours of detailed torturing and killing so I can’t complain. Not a religious person, I sat in the audience and fought back deep anger at the seeming senselessness of it all and that is all I will say as I know many Xangans are devoutly religious and I don’t wish to offend anyone. Here is a poem I wrote when I was young:
Savior
I look carefully at the sky he
went back to, not believing him
a clever man – he did make
enemies and threw away his life,
but at least his face held
steady, while the audience around
the cross dissolved in fear.

Deep Thought: The first thing was, I learned to forgive myself. Then I told myself, ‘Go ahead, do whatever you want, it’s ok by me.’”

You post encourages me to stick with my original plan: not to see it.
i hope he didn’t throw it away.
once again you prove that even at a young age you had incredible writing talent. Infinite Blessings
I hope he didn’t throw it away too, but I look around and see just as much violence and cruelty in the world as before he died and it just makes me very sad.
I decided not to see it.
I’m still wavering about going to this movie. I had meant to see it before I heard just how violent it is, and now I’m not sure. But I don’t go to movies much anyway, so I’ll probably just let this one go.
Your poem is outstanding. It’s impressive that you wrote this in your youth. It’s profound.
I haven’t seen the movie yet. I plan to but I’ve been gone since it came out. Nice poem.
That’s a very poignant poem. I am impressed with your skill & ability to share atmosphere & thought sin a poetic way.
I know I can’t handle the violence of that movie. I also have some issues with the director, so I am just steering clear of it. I am a Christian, but a wimpy one.
i’m not going to watch it. i don’t watch violent movies.
I think your poem has more passion and meaning than that film could ever have. Thanks.
