Film Review – Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World
Thanks to my bungling of times, this was the one film I saw out this Christmas. We had intended to see The Last Samurai. So my opinion was that this is definitely a testosterone film – not even a slight love story thread to it like in many action films. I predict it will get an Academy Award nod just because of its attempt at realism depicting life on the high seas in the period of Napoleon’s domination of Europe. Lots of camaraderie and gusto. Not that much gore except for some graphic surgeries under grim conditions by the ship’s doctor. Mostly big waves and big cowboy philosophy of life. Russell Crowe was not stretched to the brink of his abilities. Not my favorite genre. Not even sure whose favorite genre it might be. But hey, what do I know.
Definitely on the down side of the holiday arc now. Feeling kind of decrepit like a piece of torn wrapping. Very ready to move on to the New Year.
Deep Thought:If I had the time to sit down and write a thank-you note to everyone who sent me a nice, expensive present, what a wonderful world that would be!
Today I am grateful for: Dry land

tattered and torn? I’m weird, but the scraps of old wrapping paper that I find under the couch or tucked into a corner are my favorite bits. I often save little bits of them and use them as book marks. The distressed and wrinkley and frayed appearance shows their history. Ready for a new year too, but settling into the prolonged quiet that comes to my house this time of year — after the babies have gone home, the teen and twenty-somethings quietly and not-so quietly enjoying home time. It’s wonderful. It’s the down side of the arc, but maybe my favorite part, all together. told you I was weird. the movie sounds kind of interesting. Do you have to go back to work right away?
Looks like a good movie. We don’t go to movie houses. We just wait for them to come on T.V. I can relax more, watching, and if it’s not what I want to watch, I can turn it off.
The only movies I see these days are on the TV as I pack. I liked the clips of Master and Commander. I hope to see it some day. Thanks for the review.
I answered your questions, by the way, on my blog…. sort of.
Russell Crowe seems to be good @ most roles he does. I might get seasick seeing something like that on the big screen. Sorry you feel frayed. We’ll be in 2004, I always like even numbered years better,.. yes I’m weird, too. Tootle-loo!
This is a movie that had no particular draw for me and your review confirms my suspicions of it. Now, if you would like to see a movie that might very well touch you, Feast of July or Nicholas Nicholby are both good.
As for the new year, I am looking forward to it as well. Infinite Blessings
