  • hc TUESDAY POLITICS

Wait, there’s no crying in primaries! Yesterday, I was mystified to see Hillary Clinton tear up when asked about her reasons for trying to be President. I totally had a mixed reaction. On the one hand, I could instantly imagine what delight her opponents would have with such ammunition. Major sexist attack fodder. On the other hand, for a minute she seemed like one of us, a human. I’m one of those undecided voters who is still watching and hoping for something underlined and in bold to happen that will flip my switch. I’m sure I’ll vote for whoever the Democratic candidate turns out to be, but in the meantime I’m not convinced yet – no, not even with the popular Obama and his wonderful speeches. I’m so cynical I could even imagine those tears being planned. But I hope they weren’t. I’d like to see a few on some of those male candidates’ faces, in fact. Not bloody likely though. Not in public anyway. On to South Carolina.

Deep Thought: “Maybe it’s my imagination, but food seemed to taste better when I was a kid. Also, food would sing and dance and play musical instruments. But that could also have been my imagination.”
Today I am grateful for: Being right-handed
Guess the Movie: “The rine in spine sties minely in the pline.”  Answer:  My Fair Lady, 1964.  Winner:  RnBoW_SPOT.

  • Yeah, I don’t have a fixed opinion yet either…

    Movie? My Fair Lady

  • i liked that she went there…

it’s so weird seeing the candidates all tired looking
but acting like they’re the energizer bunny
their fake energy seems so fake
so when she was “real” for a moment
    that made me feel good
like, she’s not pretending to be a superhero

but of course, it could have been cold calculation, etc…

    but i liked it
it was like a sigh of relief

  • My Fair Lady wins!

  • I watched the tearing up clip once. I thought it was genuine but I thought it was the wrong move. People will just use it against her. But a lot of people HATE her (and most don’t even know why) and they will use anything they can to sully her.

I don’t have a particular favorite just a democrat. I don’t think our country could survive another chicken hawk republican. It scares me where our country is headed and that people just don’t seem to care.

  • as a 30-something who has been disillusioned with politics i have become interested again (almost to the point of involvement) in part, because of obama’s speeches.  i read an article the other day that said something like:  when the other two [clinton and edwards] speak they are politicians.  when obama speaks he sounds like the leader of a movement.  i am a fan, but still out on where i’ll put my vote.

the hillary tears really threw me, too.  were they for real or was she playing to the female audience?  whatever the case, it worked.

  • I don’t know who I will vote for either, but I can’t remember a time when I was more interested in the primaries, except for the first time I ever followed them, when Bobby Kennedy was running.

  • It didn’t matter to me that she cried– I think there’s nothing wrong with crying.

What did and does matter to me is her inability to take strong positions against the war, and her incrementalist approach to healthcare reform. I also resent her pillorying of gun owners in the 1990s– it was stupid and it also cost the Democrats valuable votes in rural America.

I do know that a lot of people characterize her as a ”strong leader.” I disagree– she can posture, but in the end she caved and continues to cave to the insurance companies. That’s not inspiring to me at all.

  • Hillary has such an agenda….Obama is a light weight.

  • I’m just not sure. It’s weird. By this time, I usually do know who I’ll vote for, but this year? Not sure at all. As to Clinton, the one thing I think sucks is that no matter what she does, there will always be some who think she should have done the opposite because she’s a woman. And that sucks.

  • I heard about the tearing up (here in Canada) and wondered if it was a manipulation, so clearly I am cynical too. I hope it wasn’t. I’m not sure who I prefer to win, Hillary or Obama…it will really be interesting to see who does though since it will be what, the first time in US history that potentially you could have either a woman as President or a person of African American heritage? Nothing dull about politics south of our border…

    cheers,

    B

  • My sediments EXACTLY, regarding the political scene. My vote will be for a Democrat, unless some incredible independent, third-party knight comes riding up. I was pleased to see McCain beat out the other Republicans, not because I care for him at all, but because I detest the other Republican candidates. I’m tired of hearing people, upon suddenly discovering Libertarian rhetoric, say Ron Paul is the guy. Please look closely, people! I’m considering changing my party affiliation, so I can vote for McCain in the CA primary. I did that in 1980, to vote against Reagan, but John Anderson had already split and started a third party by the time they held the primary.

    I remember musical food!

  • I am so tired of the campaigns just want to quit watching CNN and MSN. It’s like the war has gone into hiding.

  • I meant to ask before… did you hurt your left hand or arm?

  • Her ability to show emotion is commendable. Timing impeccable. Staged…possible. Who can we trust?!?

    Got me thinking.

    Thanks :)

  • She came across as very mean and depressing when I saw her a second time. Obama is enlightening and inspires young and some of the old to care. I don’t see how he can be light weight when they have a very similar agenda and come out about the same on issues. They have even been in public service for about the same length of time. It’s all part of her spin along with her 527 backers.

  • I fear that the Obama campagin, regardless of its success or failure, will result in a major split in the ranks of the Democratic Party…it seems like 1972 all over again…what a joy that would be…not.

But then, I guess that nothing lasts forever…especially things like the Fourth Amendment.

Once again, the Dems seem poised to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

The answer, I suppose, is still blowin’ in the wind.

Hope your new year is going well.

  • This is the weirdest election in decades. Each day, I think something new. And I’m just as confused as the day before.

  • Okay, so let me get this straight. On Sunday, the spouse and I walked all over because the weather was soooooooooooo gorgeous. Yesterday, it rained and was a little chilly. And today they are threatening snow and schools are going in 2 hours late? What????

  • I wish it were not about personality but rather what people have done or might do , that said leadership does involve personality and character so much as I hate all the focus on personality traits and behavior I get why some interest in them matters.( I can write a run on sentence with some finesse ay?) I do resent though when our focus is constantly being plied away from real issues of substance.I would like to see for example a record of their voting history , how much they were available and how often gone they were , if they have interesting monetary ties to vested interests and as clearly defined as possible an outline oftheir priorities and what plans they are working on or will work on,,,,for now I like both Edards and Obama more then Clinton.

  • Bbbbbbbbbbbbbbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr……………

  • The ability to weep proves emotion, but about what? so it is not a sure guide. Alexander is said to have wept at boundary of his empire, having no more world to conquer.

  • Thanks for your comments. You are one of my fellow bloggers I’d enjoy spending an afternoon with for tea and talk.

As for Hillary, if she is candidate for president and Obama is for vice-pres, they’ll have my vote in less than a hot minute.

We need someone intelligent with a good brain OF THEIR OWN in office. I like Obama too, but he might be in the position of a Jimmy Carter who didn’t quite know the ins and outs of Washington. He needs time and more experience? I am not a political animal, but when Bill Clinton was first elected, I remember waking up right after the election and the thought, “Thank God for Hillary!” running through my brain.

    Have a great day today!

  • I hope you have a nice nap and stay warm. It really is relative, if you are used to warmed temps than 40 is cold. I think what makes it hard this time is that the temps have dropped 50* in a week.

    Have a nice day!

  • we ( forigner ) hard look how is going on..
