  • SUNDAY GOOD NEWS

    The
good news is that he apologized (well, in general but not specifically
for anti-semitic remarks) and that he seemed to put two and two
together about the connection of his reason for apology with the
disease of alcoholism. The bad news is that early Friday morning the
Malibu fuzz picked him up for way speeding in his 2006 Lexus and quoted
him as saying (among other things in an 8-page report) “Fuck Jews. The
Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world.” He then asked the
deputy, “Are you a Jew?” The Anti-Defamation League
said in a statement on Sunday that his response was “unremorseful and
insufficient” and that his tirade “finally reveals his true self.” So
he’s out on $5000 bail from his DUI. In the meantime, all the wars in
the world continue, religions are invoked in many, and belligerence and
alcoholism are doing their best to keep children from dying of natural
causes in old age. This popular and wealthy actor will buy his way out
of his fate – they can’t.

Today I am grateful for: nth degrees
Guess the Movie: “Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid.” Answer: Star Wars, 1977. Winner: buttermelon.
Just Hot Air? Bush and Blair Refuse to Call for Ceasefire
by Colin Brown and Francis Elliott in Washington

    Tony
Blair and George Bush defied the growing anger across the world
yesterday by seeking a UN resolution that fell far short of a ceasefire
to end the killing of Lebanese civilians. (Rest of article here.)

  • alcohol seems to bring out the truth in most ppl…
star wars is one of my all time fav movies and i love hans solo.

  • Wow, you win again. I just posted your win from last time.

  • Hi, Sweetie, I’m glad you’re back. So, I didn’t know about any anti-semetic remarks thing, just that he’d been arrested for DUI. Wow. So, you mean all the while, underneath all of his successes and good fortune, he’s been harboring this “hate” thing for Jews? Wow again. I wonder if the alcohol is making him generalize because of something specific that someone Jewish said or did to him, or if he’s imagining the whole thing, or what. I didn’t know he had problems any problems, who’d have thought. ~ lea

  • i agree with buttermelon about the alcohol…but i also don’t like it when someone makes a racist remark like that, especially out of anger. i can handle racist jokes as long as i can see the person smiling/laughing. one time i was at work and i was trying to help this old man because he seemed lost…but so did the other customers. he got angry at me and told me to go back to the country i came from. the irony is that i was born in the u.s. and i never lived in another country before. sure, i’ve visited other countries, but i never stayed more than one week.

  • Where does one pick up a good blaster anyway?

  • i agree with azn_qt1 – racist remarks are just awful, in general.

meanwhile, mel gibson’s movie “the passon of the christ” was criticized for being anti-semitic, which he vehemently denied…guess someone was not full of truthiness, huh?

  • Funny, we posted on the same topic today. Sad about Mel, but as you said, he at least realized he has a problem, and that he was wrong, although no apology for the anti-semitic remarks, surprise??? Where did that come from, this the guy who supposedly backed The Passion???
    Have a lovely day.

  • Fame and fortune are the combo out of many things it seems…and I’m late but it is Star Wars indeed!

  • *sigh* I’m sorry for Mel. A gifted and talented genius. And no, alcohol does NOT bring out the truth telling. In fact, it can make it easier to lie. And it can accentuate mental illness. Call me what you will, I don’t believe a lot of that diatribe was heartfelt or truthfully believed. I think Mel’s coming unraveled slowly and surely. And the ones I really hurt for are his wife and children.

We’ll find out the truth when it’s posted. IF it’s posted.

  • my heart is broken, since he was my first love

  • very sharp

    the piercing kind.

    nice post.

    thank you

  • It kind of reminds me of the wizard of Oz…there is such a big difference between image and reality…and he opened the curtain so we can see the little man that he is.

  • I thought he was Sadam at first glance.

  • Great post. Bush and Blair strike again.

    Have a good one!

  • i like your deep thought :>)

  • The day I see him on Johnn Carson one night describing how he felt about homosexuals was the day he lost me as a fan..I have never seen braveheart or any of his films thereafter,

  • Can’t decide who’s making a bigger fool of himself: Mel or Tom Cruise.

I just realized you’re in Portland; I think I missed that before, somehow.

  • On the other hand, how wonderful that a celebrity screwed up and took responsibility for it the next day, apologized, and admitted that he had “disgraced” his family and himself. When is the last time you heard of any celebrity taking responsibility and asking forgiveness? Hell, we all sin, we all do things we’re ashamed of and/or regret. Anyone who says they have never done anything wrong is lying. I respect the fact that he ‘fessed up and did not make excuses and asked for forgiveness. Most people with fame and money don’t think they have to do any of those things.

  • I was thinking the same thing LymphNode was thinking. HA

  • Sigh, I hate it when things like this happen. When an actor displays real ugliness. It makes it all the harder to enjoy the work they do, past and present.

  • Well, he’s not popular with me.

  • i can’t stand the man

  • I new eventually he’d screw up and everyone would find out what a real antisemitic piece of crap he is!!!!  You know Hollywood is largely run by the Jewish community so I hope they run him out of town for once and for all.  Last year I sold all the DVDs I owned with him in it and donated the money to a Jewish Foundation. I felt much better afterwards.  Hope this starts a trend.   (Thanks for posting this.)

  • Never mind that it’s Mel Gibson, it’s unfortunate that this sort of prejudice still thrives in this country on any level. A little tolerance from everybody would be nice…not that I expect anyone to listen. The last guy to go around preaching that got nailed to a cross.

    Also, I agree with LymphNode.

The more math I study, the more grateful I become for nth degrees. Useful little buggers.

  • i didn’t realize mel gibson was such an ass.

  • You too eh? I mean about having a back that won’t let you forget its there? Somehow i figured my situation my not be unusual….and still we move on which proves life is good..despite a few snags here and there…and…the news.

  • The LA Times had an interesting piece today about whether alcohol makes you spout nonsense you don’t believe, or whether it reveals your secret thoughts. Most doctors said the latter although they said it’s not quite a truth serem… I didn’t like Mel since Passion, and finding out his dad denies the Holocaust.
