I’m not a huge country music fan, though a lot of what I listen to is
what I guess you’d call “alternative” country or pop music. So
the Dixie Chicks weren’t really high on my radar until the big hoopla
back in 2003 when lead singer, Natalie Maines, dared to criticize Herr
Bush. That was when the tide had not yet really turned in public
approval of the war in Iraq, so the reaction to her comment about being
ashamed the Pres was from her home state of Texas brought the rightwing
conservative country crowd out of the woodwork with death threats and
CD burnings et al. That was then. This is now. Their new
album, “Taking the Long Way” sold close to 526,000 copies its first
week of release and debuted at Number One on both the Billboard 200 and
Top Country Albums charts, making the Dixie Chicks the first female
group in chart history to have three Number One entries. Take
that Heartland. And here are the lyrics to “I’m Not Ready to Make
Nice” from the new record minus a couple of repeat choruses:Forgive, sounds good.
Forget, I’m not sure I could.
They say time heals everything,
But I’m still waitingI’m through, with doubt,
There’s nothing left for me to figure out,
I’ve paid a price, and I’ll keep payingI’m not ready to make nice,
I’m not ready to back down,
I’m still mad as hell
And I don’t have time
To go round and round and round
It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could
Cause I’m mad as hell
Can’t bring myself to do what it is
You think I shouldI know you said
Why can’t you just get over it,
It turned my whole world around
and i kind of like itI made by bed, and I sleep like a baby,
With no regrets and I don’t mind saying,
It’s a sad sad story
That a mother will teach her daughter
that she ought to hate a perfect stranger.
And how in the world
Can the words that I said
Send somebody so over the edge
That they’d write me a letter
Saying that I better shut up and sing
Or my life will be overForgive, sounds good.
Forget, I’m not sure I could.
They say time heals everything,
But I’m still waiting

think you can tell if you have a curse on you is if you open a box of

Guess the Movie: “The 600
series had rubber skin. We spotted them easy, but these are new. They
look human – sweat, bad breath, everything. Very hard to spot. I had to
wait till he moved on you before I could zero him.” Answer: The Terminator, 1984.

New pill seen as breakthrough in fighting breast cancer
Doctors believe that Tykerb, a new drug made by the UK firm
GlaxoSmithKline, could be even more effective than the older drug
Herceptin in extending the lives of thousands of women with advanced
breast cancer.
The new drug not only targets a protein that stimulates the growth of breast cancers, it also stalls the spread of the disease.
The American Society of Clinical Oncology congress in Atlanta heard
yesterday how Tykerb had prolonged the lives of women with advanced
breast cancer from four to eight months. Delegates were told that women
taking Tykerb were twice as likely to survive as those receiving
chemotherapy.
Leading cancer specialists described the drug as a breakthrough in fighting breast cancer.

I am not a country music fan but I think I’m going out to buy the Chicks CD. They could have come back quietly and not said a thing but ya gotta love Chicks with guts! Here is an interesting article about the whole Chicks ordeal.
The war at home: Fighting for free speech
I have funny feeling DC is going to make it to no. 1 on the R&B charts too. I know I’m going to buy it. Also they were on 60 minutes and it was a great interview.
They weren’t on my list, either, but I like what they are saying, and am considering buying their new CD….It is astounding that they actually got death threats…my mind just does not go there….
Why’s everyone talking about them again? Wasn’t that whole thing a long time ago?
Indeed…the Chicks have come a long way! I too am embarrassed to say Bush is from my home state! Amen to them for having the guts to do so!
Movie=I, Robot
THIS is awesome!
Did you happen to catch the Chicks on Larry King Live last night?
Like the words to that song.
There’s some country I like, and some I don’t, but it’s really hard for me to pick just one artist that I like all or dislike all of their work.
The movie quote I would have said “Blade Runner” by the style and topic, but I know it well enough to know it’s not. I’m guessing “I Robot” like SPOT did.
Oops, I missed that guess of I Robot. Good guess but not it. Think motorcycle and shades.
Terminator 3?
Close enough! It’s the original Terminator.
I love this song!!! Hope your doing well!
I can’t say as I blame them any for still being a bit tender on that subject. I remember that remark. And I remember saying “right on” at the time. And the subsequent interviews where they had to apologize and make nice. I think they’ve been more than vindicated now, don’t you?
I absolutely love the Deep Thought
deep thought cool.
The deep thought is excellent. I think that might be a clue too. roflmao
Herr Bush. Watch out, big brother might be watching. hahahaha
Have a great day!
I love your deep thought……gave me a great visual & a good chuckle!!
Not sure I’d pick the Dixie Chicks as an example, but I really do believe that the weight of talent these days is in country or country-like music. Maybe it will change.
Yes, all in all, it was a pretty good day. I hope you had one as well.
Thank you very much. =)
I also blogged about the Chicks, but I have been a fan for a while. I saw them in San Diego right after the big “incident”….everyone had predicted that in a military town like San Diego, there would be big backlash but there wasn’t. Talent takes precedence over opinions and those Chicks ARE talented!! New CD is #1….Bush’s ratings are close to being single digit…..can you say satisfaction??
Their playing Vegas in October….I plan to be there. Have a great week!!
Ok, without looking at everyone else’s answers..I’m guessing “Bladerunner” for the movie.
Love that Deep Thought! Ha! Where do you get this stuff?
John
When I first planted the flowers, I had digging in it and then it stopped. Now its started up again and I see cat doodoo on the sidewalk it looks like… so that may be the culprit. Frustrating though because I thought it had stopped.
I love your site and I hate Bush as much, if not more, than you. It is probably what made me stop and notice Dixie Chicks in the first place.
I love your deep thought for today. That’s how I think most of the time.
Take care.
Our thinking is so often in tune.
Thanks, lol. You are teaching me me more about raku than I even knew. I will have to give it a better “look see” later tonight when we get home. Hope your Monday rocks. ~lea
I just now noticed your saying over there at the left and really like it: “A free spirit is a broken heart with an open mind.”

I couldn’t help it..I was glued to the monitor..did something..came back..everytime I came back it was like another bite of delicious candy waiting..LOVED IT!!I can’t tell you what I liked the most..EVERYTHING!!! You do an excellent job !! THANK YOU…
Seeing your heart my made my heart want to reach out to yours..It made me regret not knowing you personally..I see you as a wonderful human being..Surely I would add you to my list of people who “knock me out”..Certainly…

A hug,
lucy
I just wish DC were better supported back when the comment was first made. In 2003, country stations in my area were refusing to play DC’s music. Of course, now that eevryone realizes what an embarassment Bush really is to this nation, everyone is O.K. with DC. Talk about loyalty.
