    In honor of peace, the solstice, and the birth of Christ

    Interrelationship
    (by Thich Nhat Hanh)

    You are me, and I am you.
    Isn’t it obvious that we “inter-are”?
    You cultivate the flower in yourself,
    so that I wil be beautiful.
    I transform the garbage in myself,
    so that you will not have to suffer.

    I support you;
    you support me.
    I am in this world to offer you peace;
    you are in this world to bring me joy.

    Deep Thought: “I don’t pretend to have all the answers. I don’t pretend to even know what the questions are. Hey, where am I?”
    Today I am grateful for: Brushes of all kinds
    Guess the Movie: “Mo cuishle. It means my darling. My blood.” Answer: Million Dollar Baby, 2004. Winner: Eliminate_the_Impossible.
    Once-Lone Foe of Patriot Act Has Company
    by Sheryl Gay Stolberg

    WASHINGTON – When Congress passed the antiterrorism bill known as the USA Patriot Act in the fall of 2001, greatly expanding the government’s investigative powers, a single senator, Russell D. Feingold, Democrat of Wisconsin, voted against it. With the nation reeling from the Sept. 11 attacks, opposing the bill seemed an act of political suicide, especially for a Democrat.
    Today, more than 40 Democrats and four Republicans stand with Mr. Feingold as he helps lead a filibuster blocking the act’s renewal. They are betting that the politics of terrorism have shifted from fear of another attack to wariness of “Big Brother” intrusions on personal privacy. (Rest of article here.)

  • thank god for mr. feingold

  • I can not whistle either but after many years learned how to snap my fingers. I use Picasa for editing which is free from Google.  Not quite photoshop but useful.  I like that you used Thich Nhat Hanh for the birth of Christ in that way making if inclusive (being that i am Jewish and the birth is usually meaningless to me). I have right here near my computer by chance The Miracle of Mindfulness by Thich Nhat Hanh. it is very good.

  • The movie quote is from the spectacular Million Dollar Baby.

  • Ding! you’re right!

  • I like the look of those flowers I don’t like the weather right now. I do not like too hot or too cold of weather this winter I have been daydreaming going to southern California or Mexico.  Bitch Bitch Bitch lol, I love the poem it is quite beautiful.  Did you have fun at the party?  I have no answers just always looking a constant seeker of life. • Loving that piece you have shared with us…I am not familiar with the poet…but I will seek out other works

  • I’m probably too optimistic, but I think peace is catching on, as a pretty good idea, by more people than ever.  Just a gut feeling.

  • what a great poem…

  • Oooh…Million Dollar Baby. Good movie. Did you take that photo of the flowers? I like it.

  • One Republican, Senator Jon Kyl of Arizona, went so far as to warn colleagues that they would be held responsible for another attack. “God help us if there’s some kind of terrorist attack when we are not protected by the Patriot Act,” he said, adding, “We will have to answer for that.”

    Wow.. Fearmonger much. I hope none of this gets passed into permanence. It’s easier to get laws ON The books than off of them.

  • Great post Andrea, thanks for sharing I have been signing petitions on this one forever. Judi
