  • MONDAY BOOK

Someone mentioned this song in a comment to my blog from yesterday about humanity before nationalism. It’s not a book – it’s a lyric, but it’s a meaningful read for today.

    Imagine

    Imagine there’s no heaven,
    It’s easy if you try,
    No hell below us,
    Above us only sky,
    Imagine all the people
    living for today…

    Imagine there’s no countries,
    It isnt hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
    No religion too,
    Imagine all the people
    living life in peace…

    Imagine no possessions,
    I wonder if you can,
No need for greed or hunger,
    A brotherhood of man,
    Imagine all the people
    Sharing all the world…

You may say Im a dreamer,
but Im not the only one,
I hope some day you’ll join us,
And the world will live as one.

Deep Thought: “I think the monkeys at the zoo should have to wear sunglasses so they can’t hypnotize you.”
Today I am grateful for: Seed-sowers
Guess the Movie: “I came here to drink myself to death.” “How long will it take you?” “I’d say about three to four weeks.” Answer: Leaving Las Vegas, 1995. Winner: thenarrator.

  • Leaving Las Vegas? (a dangerous favorite of mine, but I’m not sure)

I remember standing at the bandshell in Central Park the night John Lennon was killed, in a vast crowd of wildly diverse people. We all sang Imagine, the cops around joining in too – I remember that distinctly – it was a transcendent moment in a bitterly confused, incredibly troubled city, and proof that there are those who are truly immortal.

  • Happy Fourth of July…that is my husband’s hymn of life. I still remember Neil Young’s version of it during the 9/11 television special, right after. It was an amazing rendition, very moving.

  • I love this one…..

  • Yes, Leaving Las Vegas – Cage’s best performance so far, IMO. And yes, what a loss.

  • Imagine.  Have been thinking about that song ever since 9/11.

  • That is one of the best songs ever written.  :) The more i hear it, the more it becomes a part of me. Thank you for posting it!

  • Great minds think alike! I posted the lyrics to this song yesterday for exactly the same reason…

  • That’s my daughter’s favorite song (mine too) I hope you don’t mind I emailed the entire post to her   :)

  • yes, truly a lovely song.

i must admit that my first thought on hearing that o’conner resigned was “how much did they pay her….”  - disturbing, for cynicism is not usually in my repetoire
